Wii Controller Cookies

Sorry for being MIA, but finals are coming up and I've been busy studying and writing papers :(. But luckily, that means that a week from today, it'll be winter break and I'll be free to turn on the Christmas music and start baking my Christmas cookies. I can't wait! This week though, I thought that I'd post about something fun, a little something to brighten up the day.

Remember the controller cookies I posted about back in April? Well today I'm adding another controller to the bunch: Wii Controller Cookies. I enjoy making controller cookies because it gives me an excuse to browse the candy aisles at the supermarket. I ended up getting white "mystery" Airheads and confetti sprinkles for some of the buttons. Sadly though, I couldn't seem to find a clear candy to use for the "A" button. But no worries, I just ended up making my own clear gummy candy buttons :).

Super Smash Bros!!!

Crossovers are pretty awesome. By crossovers I mean everything from fictional crossovers to designer collaborations, like The Jetsons Meet The Flinstones, Girl Scout Cookies in Dreyer's Ice Cream, Justice League, Alice in Wonderland for Paul & Joe, and Christian Louboutin meets Ladurée, just to name a few. One of the best crossovers had to be Super Smash Bros, the video game of my childhood. It had a wide cast of characters from a variety of different video games, from Mario to Captain Falcon, Pikachu to Link.

Continuing from the last post on Controller Cookies, with my mind geared toward video game baking, I forged on and made Super Smash sugar cookies in the shape of all the characters from the original N64 version of the game, modifying the characters to fit my cookie style. I considered making cookies for the newer versions of the game, SSB Melee and Brawl, just because there are so many more characters to choose from, but I find my heart still lies with the original. Making these cookies definitely had me reminiscing of those halcyon afternoons spent hanging out friends, playing this very game.

Controller Cookies

Back in March, I attended two game parties/potlucks. For both parties, I volunteered to bring dessert, my favorite course to make. I wanted to bake something game related, and then I remembered Ms. Humble's adorable Wii controller cookies. I decided then and there that I'd bring game console controller cookies to the parties.

I knew that a variety of consoles would be at each party, so I ended up making three types of controller cookies: Xbox 360, Nintendo 64, and Playstation 2. It was fun going to the store to pick out candies for making the controller buttons. My most successful find was Crows, a black licorice version of Dots, perfect for simulating all those black and gray rubber buttons on the controllers. Other decorations I used were: Good & Fruity, the fruit version of Good & Plenty, mini M&Ms, white chocolate chips, and mini rainbow circle sprinkles.

Overall, these cookies were well received. They were the perfect dessert to end a potluck and segue into some intense video gaming. Or for some, something sweet to nibble on while waiting to play Rockband or Mario Party. So next time you attend a game party, consider bringing some controller cookies. At the very least, they'll give everyone something to talk about :D.
