About

Hi! My name is Susan, and I started this blog during my junior year of undergrad (way back in 2009, go Bears!) as a way to share baking tips and recipes I adapted. I had just started teaching myself how to bake at that time by reading various food blogs, studying cookbook after cookbook, and lots of trial & error (you don't see it, but it took so many failures to get to what you see here). I love baking because it's both art + science, two of my biggest passions in life! Art: the creativity of the decorating process. Science: the precision needed to combine new ingredients to create delicious flavors, basically the chemistry of food.

I'm also a huge proponent of "happiness is homemade". Making your own food from scratch creates such an appreciation for what you eat on a day-to-day basis, but also lets you be playful and experiment in the kitchen. Seriously, one of the best things in the world is smelling the scent of freshly baked bread coming from your oven! Breaking down the basics of baking and encouraging readers who have never baked anything before is a big motivation in my blogging.

Lastly, I love to celebrate everything in life, from those tiny daily victories to those once in a lifetime accomplishment! Life is sweet and should be savored, so what better way to celebrate than with a one of a kind cake or a tray of freshly baked cookies?

11/2020 Update: I took a hiatus from blogging for the past few years while I completed residency (turns out blogging and residency are hard to balance simultaneously), but now I'm back a couple of years later ready to share some new baking projects with all of you!
